I have been teaching all things Instagram to business owners and entrepreneurs for over a year now and the number one question I get is about hashtags. So I wanted to share with youMY TOP SIX HASHTAG TIPS!

#1: Use all 30 Hashtags

I have seen some Instagram Experts teach to use 11-12 hashtags but I have personally tested this and think it’s BOGUS! We all know Instagram only allows us to use 30 hashtags and if hashtags are your keywords for Instagrammers searching for you, why not use ALL 30?I highly recommend coming up with a set of 90 hashtags. Yes you read that right, 90 hashtags. I want you to separate them into groups of 30 and save that list for later, we will be using it.How do you find the RIGHT hashtags?Well first you need to know that hashtags like #love #me #cool are not going to get you ANYWHERE. You need to get into your Target Market’s head, what would they be searching for if they were to be looking for you and your niche?Stuck when it comes to finding who your Target Market is? Grab our free worksheet here: https://instantboss.lpages.co/target-market-worksheet-free-download/Secondly look at what your competitors are using. Make a list of at least 10 competitors and look at all the hashtags they are using. Do these hashtags fit your niche? If so, you should be using them.And Last but not least, Instagram recommends hashtags for you. When you search a hashtag, for example #boutiquestyle you will see that at the top Instagram also shows you related hashtags such as #boutiqueshopping, #boutiqueclothing, etc… Check those hashtags out and see if they fit what your target market is looking for.

#2: Put your Hashtags in Order

You can’t just be using your hashtags all willy nilly. You need to be able to test your hashtags and KNOW which ones are working for you and which you should ditch.You will know your hashtags are working when you are getting more likes, more comments and new followers. You can also check to see if your hashtags are working by searching the hashtags you are using and see if you are ranked in the TOP POSTS

When you are putting together your list of 90 hashtags (as mentioned above) I want you to put them in order of how many times they are being used. For example #boutique has 11,269,663 uses while #boutiquestyle has 168,635. You are more likely to be put in the top posts of #boutiquestyle then #boutique just because there is less competition.I recommend finding hashtags with 5,000 uses, then 10,000, 20,000 all the way to 100,000 for your first test. If you find that you are ranking in Top Posts for the 100,000 mark you can keep adding more used hashtags till you hit your plateau.There is also a great app called SMARTHASH that allows you to copy hashtag sets and split test them to see which are working for you and which are not. But I still recommend getting your hashtags in order and regularly checking them.

#3: Use hashtags in your comments, not on your caption

Hashtags work the same way and do not depend on whether you put them in your caption or your comments section. I personally like to put my hashtags in the comments section because it makes my post look so much nicer. When your hashtags are in your caption, they can be overwhelming and take over the look of your post.

#4: Get your hashtags on your post ASAP

The faster you get your hashtags on your post the more likely that your target market will find you faster. Also The Instagram algorithm for hashtags doesn’t start working till you put your hashtags in your post. For example you can’t make a post and get 50 likes and 20 comments and THEN post your hashtags, because Instagram doesn’t recognize any of those likes or comments from before.

#5: Regularly Change your Hashtags

This is why I had you create 90 hashtags, so you will AT LEAST have 3 sets of hashtags to change out. There has been a bunch of rumors swarming around the Instagram Shadow Ban. This is where accounts are using hashtags but Instagram isn’t showing their posts in the hashtag area. Some Instagram Experts suggest regularly changing your hashtags to avoid the dreaded Shadow Ban.If you don’t want to spend hours on end coming up with hashtags, I have a solution for you. #6: Know where you can use your hashtags

I put together the #instabossmob hashtag as an engagement hashtag. Which means that anytime someone uses it they should also go and like and comment on others using the tag. Since I created this hashtag from the ground up and it is known with my brand I use this hashtag in my Instagram Bio so when people search #instabossmob my account pops up as well! https://youtu.be/9lKpdMo13oM

You can also now use hashtags in your Instagram stories. Since this is so new, I am not exactly sure how Instagram chooses which stories to feature in the hashtag area yet. But I assume it has something to do with how many views your stories are getting.
