Meet Holly McLanahan CEO of Vintage Leopard Boutique
What inspired you to start your business and when did you officially start?
I started my business to help with extra income as we were preparing my first child for college. I was working in oil and gas at the time, and doing my small business on the side which started in 2011. At that time, I was mostly only selling products to customers in my small town, and begin the process on Facebook. Eventually, my business blossomed into a greater success than I had ever imagined, and allowed me to become my own boss, and work for my own dream/goals instead of someone else's.
Do you remember when you made your first order? Tell us what that felt like.
My first order was from someone from my hometown in January of 2011. I feel that it is so important to shop locally, and to support other businesses. I am forever grateful for that customer - she trusted me, and gave me hope in my new adventure. The most orders I have shipped out in one day thus far was 350.
What advice do you have for boutiques that are just starting?
My advice would be to always stay true to yourself, and to grab inventory that is unique. So many stores carry the same things, and customers value products more when they are different, and rare. It's also important to connect with your customers. Customers will always continue to shop with someone who has made an impact, or positive influence on them.
Did you ever hit any roadblocks along the way? Tell us your story.
I think one of my biggest roadblocks was not having enough space for all of our inventory for a long period of time. For several years, most of my inventory was in my house, and pretty much occupied the ENTIRE space. At that time, I had no employees, either. I handled everything by myself, and my husband, and kids would help me package orders. Flash forward to today, I now have my own 8,500 square foot warehouse, and I have wonderful employees who help me everyday. I am grateful for those roadblocks, and I am thankful for where I am at today.
What Business goals do you have for next year?
My business goals for next year would be to increase customer base, and delegate more responsibilities to staff.
