WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BUSINESS AND WHEN DID YOU OFFICIALLY START?
My husband and I had just recently adopted a baby boy, and I wanted so badly to stay home with him, as I didn’t have the opportunity with my older two boys. I was slowly getting an obsession with shopping at boutiques, both locally in storefronts and online websites. Between the obsession with boutiques, always wanting to be a business owner, and the desire to stay home with our new bundle of joy, I decided to take the leap and start Beautique!
DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN YOU MADE YOUR FIRST ORDER? TELL US WHAT THAT FELT LIKE.
Yes! I’ll never forget the feeling of those first few orders coming in the night I launched my website. I felt like I was on the top of the world! Such a huge adrenaline rush – and it just made the craving to make this little dream a huge success when so many were doubting me!
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR BOUTIQUES THAT ARE JUST STARTING?
Patience. One of the biggest mistakes I ever made was pushing to grow faster than I could keep up with. Financially, growing pains are TOUGH! Slow and steady wins the race! Don’t bite off more than you can chew.
DID YOU EVER HIT ANY ROADBLOCKS ALONG THE WAY? TELL US YOUR STORY.
Yes. I feel like every successful boutique owner hits a roadblock (or a few) along the way. It is nothing to be ashamed of. I feel my biggest roadblock has been when the bank account balance didn’t match the level I wanted to take my boutique. Meaning, I was pushing things too hard, too fast which turned into debt and bad decisions. Lines of credit that I shouldn’t have taken, loans that should have never been offered to me. In the end, regardless of the roadblock, your passion to succeed has to outweigh the fear of failure – and you WILL be ok!
WHAT BUSINESS GOALS DO YOU HAVE FOR NEXT YEAR?
Get 100% out of debt! Once that happens, my team and I really want to work on our own line of clothing!
